Data Authority Strategies: a global review of current practice
New research report released 2 April 2024
I’m pleased to announce that our independent report: Data Protection Authority Strategies: a global review of global practice is released today. Produced by Marie Charlotte Roques Bonnet, Sebastian Page and myself. It is also grounded in my experience of 15 years working at the ICO, working with other DPAs internationally and the recent consultancy work I have done to help new DPAs set up and develop strategies.
It breaks new ground in learning from current approaches and looking ahead to the future strategic direction for DPAs. The research is the result of a 10 month study, assessing over 50 strategies and 20 interviews with DPAs.
We also look forward to discussing with the DP community at events over the coming months.
The report addresses
➡️How can a DPA strategy make a difference on the impact and effective delivery of regulatory functions?
➡️Are there common practices amongst DPAs?
➡️Can we identify good practices that could be shared with others?
➡️How are DPAs planning and changing their approach for regulation of emerging technologies, such as AI?
➡️Are DPAs planning to leverage new technologies in their own operations?
➡️ What challenges and opportunities do DPAs encounter in the strategy development process?
